The team comes together
We were two creative people asked to build an adaptive testing platform as part of doctoral research conducted at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR).
Our first project
First step toward success: we delivered our first major project, the computerization of a large-scale diagnostic examination.
The start of a valued collaboration
We began a valued collaboration with the ministère de l'Éducation of the Government of Québec, which continues to this day.

Research
Softinov, a partner in research
Softinov has always grown in close contact with the academic world. Right from its beginnings in 2001, the company took shape within a university research setting, as part of doctoral work in measurement and assessment conducted at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) — a collaboration that shaped, from the outset, its commitment to rigour, fairness and scientific validity in online assessment.
Since then, Softinov has built lasting partnerships with several Québec universities. It works hand in hand with professors, researchers and graduate students in measurement and assessment, psychometrics and educational sciences. These collaborations take many forms: co-supervised research projects, applied experiments, validation of testing methods, and the transfer of scientific advances into the Mezur platform. For the researchers, Softinov offers a robust technological environment to run large-scale studies; for Softinov, this ongoing dialogue keeps its solutions anchored in the most current knowledge of the field.
This closeness to the research community is not a matter of image — it is a working method. Because the design choices behind an assessment platform (item calibration, adaptive testing, fairness of measurement, integrity of proctoring) carry real scientific stakes, Softinov makes sure that its decisions are informed by researchers who make these questions their life's work. It is this constant back-and-forth between the field, the university and engineering that allows Mezur and VigiAcces to serve organizations with high-stakes requirements while upholding the standards of educational measurement.
